Discount Guide for Small Shops & Studios
This one's the companion to Your Discount Code Made Sales. Did It Do Its Job?, so if you want to know why these work head on over there.
What you'll find in here are two different resources to help you actually pick the right goal from your own numbers and match it to the right offer, plus exactly where to go pull the data on Shopify, Square, Toast, Lightspeed, and Acuity.
Make sure you check the right section depending on if you own a retail shop or cafe, or a studio or class based business.
For shops
Before you pick an offer, check what your own numbers are actually telling you. That's where the goal should come from, not some general list of discount types.

Once you have your goals set, determine your offers and make sure you can reach the segment each offer is best suited for.

For classes & memberships
Before you pick an offer, check what your own numbers are actually telling you. That's where the goal should come from, not some general list of discount types.

Once you have your goals set, determine your offers and make sure you can reach the segment each offer is best suited for.
Quick links, by platform
If you want to go pull this data today, here's exactly where to look on the platforms most shops and studios are already using.
Shopify: Customers report, new vs. returning and the Sales by discount report.
Square: Discounts report and Customer insights.
Toast: Reporting for discounts and promo codes. Toast tracks discount totals well but doesn't split them by new versus returning customer on its own, so you'll cross-reference against guest history by hand.
Lightspeed Retail: Sales by discount report. Same gap as Toast: strong on discount totals, no built-in new versus returning breakdown.
Acuity Scheduling: Generating reports and managing your client list. No dedicated coupon or new-versus-returning report here, this one stays client by client.
None of these hand you the full answer in one click, honestly. But every one of them gets you close enough to check the goal against the redemptions, which is the actual point.
